The Nest Experience

The Nest at Thistle Ridge, your stay is about more than a place to sleep — it’s an invitation to slow your pace, breathe a little deeper, and reconnect with the rhythms of rural life.

Set on our working farmette just outside Shepherdstown, The Nest offers privacy, comfort, and a front-row seat to a landscape shaped by animals, seasons, and intentional living. Whether you’re here for a quiet weekend or a longer escape, we want you to feel truly at home.

The Space

Your private suite is thoughtfully designed to feel calm, warm, and restorative.

• A cozy living area with natural light and pastoral views

• A fully equipped kitchenette stocked with coffee and tea

• A serene bedroom with soft linens and layered textures

• A spa-like bathroom featuring heated floors — a guest favorite in every season

For stays of three nights or longer, we offer a complimentary mid-stay refresh with fresh linens and replenished coffee and tea. Prefer privacy? We’re always happy to provide supplies for guests who wish to refresh on their own.

Hosting with Intention

We created The Nest because we believe in the power of place — in the grounding feeling that comes from stepping out of city life, even briefly, and reconnecting with something simpler and more human.

Our hope is that when you leave, you feel rested, restored, and just a little more rooted than when you arrived.

Life on the Farmette

The Nest sits within a carefully curated menagerie of friendly, heritage-breed animals — each chosen for their gentle nature and beauty.

Guests may see:

• Horses grazing nearby

• Alpacas and our llama, Max, wandering their paddocks

• Sheep, goats, cows and miniature pigs enjoying the day

We love sharing farm life, and we’re happy to arrange scheduled opportunities to meet the animals during your stay. This ensures both guest safety and animal wellbeing while still offering a memorable, hands-on experience.

Outdoor Moments

Step outside and enjoy:

• Morning coffee with birdsong and pasture views

• Sunset walks along the property

• Quiet evenings under the stars

This is a place where time stretches — where you can read, walk, reflect, or simply do nothing at all.

Perfectly Placed for Exploring

While The Nest feels worlds away, it’s ideally located for exploring the region.

We’re just minutes from Shepherdstown, the oldest town in West Virginia — and Leigh was born and raised there. If you’re looking for restaurant recommendations, hidden gems, or local favorites, just ask.

Nearby highlights include:

• Historic Harpers Ferry, the midpoint of the Appalachian Trail

• Scenic hikes, river access, and overlooks

• Local breweries, wineries, and seasonal events

• Easy day trips to the D.C. metro area

We’re always happy to tailor recommendations to your interests — hiking, history, food, or quiet wandering.
